LOCAL ARTIST TIMOTHY KROE TO SHOWCASE NEW WORKS FOR MAY DAY
New Show by Local Artist Will Feature Mythical Paintings
PALM SPRINGS, CA – March 16, 2009: A new show by local artist Timothy Kroe titled “Zoomorphic Nudes: May Day’s Moonlight and Myth” will take place from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, May 1st at James Jensen Studio located 800 N. Palm Canyon Drive, Suite C in Palm Springs. The exhibition will feature works that premiere Timothy’s new series – Zoomorphic Nudes – depicting half human, half animal mythical beasts. All of the works presented will be available for purchase, and refreshments will be served.
“My new series of ‘Zoomorphic Nudes’ is derived from my interest in mythologies, of spirituality, and of humankind’s connection to the earth,” says Timothy Kroe, Palm Springs artist. “These paintings are enriched with archetypes, metaphors and hidden imagery. My hope is that they pull at the subconscious to access the collective unconscious, calling for transformation not only in how we view the world, but in ourselves as its caretakers as well.”
Zoomorphism is the attribution of animal qualities and characteristics to a god, shaman, or mythical beasts. Half human, half animal, they are mystical, mythical, and spiritual creatures that represent the inner beast in us. Kroe’s new works serve as a gentle reminder of our own humanity, which Timothy views as especially timely amid global upheaval, economic hardship, and unprecedented climate change.
“We have gotten further and further from the thought that we are of the Earth, that we are so different than the animals,” says Kroe. “And that distance has caused our respect of the Earth to diminish, pollution to increase, and climate change to become a reality. These nudes are meant to honor the old thought that we are bound to the Earth and its animals. It’s a tribute to the animal totems within us, and that we should accept our place beside them.”
Timothy Kroe is a visionary artist and writer who grew up in Wichita, KS and has lived in the desert for nearly 10 years.
